As the excitement for the UEFA Euros 2024 builds and we enter the knockout stages, we’re not just looking at the football teams but also at the furry companions cheering alongside their owners.
Showcasing the deep bond between Europeans and their pets, here at The Insurance Emporium (TIE), we’ve delved into the most popular dog breeds across the nations competing in this year’s tournament.
From the loyal Labrador Retrievers of England to the charming Chihuahuas of Switzerland, TIE’s research highlights the diverse canine cultures across Europe to produce the ‘Paw-os Best XI’.
Europe’s Ultimate Dog Squad
To decide which dog breeds would qualify for our Paw-os Best XI we researched which breed is the most popular in each of the competing countries with the following results.
Our methodology: To decide which dog breed suited each position we used the following methodology – a breed with height in goal, solidity in defence, intelligence in midfield, speed on the wings and a nose for goal up front.
Pet Companionship and Sporting Events
When it comes to sports, whether it’s watching your favourite team on a weekend or viewing a major sporting event on the television, we can become entangled in the excitement and anticipation of ‘what could be’.
Francis Martin, CEO of The Insurance Emporium commented: “We’re excited for what looks to be a summer spectacular of sport. From the current Euros tournament to the pending Olympics there’s something for everyone. And for those who are seriously passionate about sporting events, the nation’s pets could play an important role in helping us get through those nail-biting moments.
Research has shown that interacting with your furry companion can decrease levels of cortisol (a stress-related hormone) while the unconditional love and support between a pet and its owners can increase the levels of oxytocin (a feel-good hormone, the same hormone that bonds mothers to babies).”
So, whatever the outcome of this year’s summer of sport and all the future sporting events, some friendly petting of your dog and/or cat could help to reduce unwanted stress and make you feel good at the same time – that’s a win, win for us!
*Cane Corso’s are recognised as a dangerous dog breed in several European countries, including the UK and isn’t a breed insurable through The Insurance Emporium.
